Thank You: Habits of Hands, A Series
by Caroline McCarty, Chief Agent of Creativity, Co-Publisher
This on-going series is devoted to each and every hand that has helped us get off the ground this past year. Thank you (in no particular order) staff members, contributors, commenters, readers and friends. You are all the parts that make our gears turn in this rapidly growing machine we have built!
It’s easy to overlook the amazing things our bodies are able to do, especially the things that happen each and every day. Our hands are our tools. Our hands complete task after task each day, their splendor going unnoticed. Many of our ideas are put into action via our hands. Ultimately, our hands have infinite potential.
I wanted to devote a series to our hands and the things that they do. I wanted to include hands of all ages, sizes, and uses. Some hands perform tasks that save lives, some simply allow a person to function in everyday life. Some people have lived their lives without their hands or fingers- representative of the fact that they are not important to everyone. Alternativley, their hands are a prosthesis or other synthetic device, or a different part of their body, such as their feet.
I wanted my subjects to tell others what their hands do for them. The statements I’ve recieved from my subjects are all profound and representative of the things we take for granted. So, here is a tribute to the beauty, versatility, eccentricity, and simplicity of our hands.
